Intensive Furniture Design Workshop
At the beginning of my final semester, I was invited to take part in a week-long masters program (MDES-6006) intensive design workshop, which was held in collaboration with Steelcase, who sent a product designer to lead the program.
The outcome of the project was not to have a singular final design, but to have a series of ideations and prototypes which could be further developed, or have features thereof integrated into a real product.

Process

The process began with defining the pain points of the current types of airport seating.

I chose to focus on the seats within the waiting environment.

The outcome of these critiques can be seen in the below sketchbook pages, along with some research as to the seating's use.

I then begin sketching variants of this style, and iterating on the existing designs helped to spark new ideas.
Final Prototypes
1. Structural Airport Bench Seating
2. Folding Chair
2b. Folding Mechanism
3. Tensile Mechanism
