Upcycled Watch

This project was inspired by an old watch I had that no longer worked properly due to a malfunctioning set-dial.

The idea for this project was to take the internal mechanism of the existing watch, and design a new case, band, and housing that would fit the mechanism, but look better and function the same with fewer parts.

My reasoning to strive towards an end goal with the fewest possible parts was two-fold; firstly, the project had a budget that was quite strict and more parts meant more manufacturing and higher cost. As well, the project was an exercise in recycling a broken watch, and the implications of creating more plastic waste in an attempt to reduce metal waste would entirely miss the point.

Research & Design Process

The final product was a watch that consisted of only three newly manufactured components. The watch face housing, the band clips, and the clasp which would allow the watch to be taken on and off.
